Frequently asked questions.

  • You’ve come to the right place! We have all been there, you are at the start of your journey, an exciting place to be. In the first lesson we will go over some guitar basics and learn a few single note riffs to get you started.

  • The first lesson is an assessment of your current level, strengths and any areas you would like improvement. Based on this, I can formulate a lesson plan working towards your goals on the instrument.

  • Yes you will. It doesn’t have to be the best money can buy, used is the best way to go when you are first starting out. The improvement happens away from lessons when you practice the material we have learnt that week, you need your own instrument to see real progress. I am happy to suggest instruments suitable for beginners, just drop me a line.

  • A consistent weekly schedule is best in my opinion. This avoids bad habits forming, also helps maintain momentum and motivation. I do offer fortnightly lessons but in my experience, progress is much slower. Better to have 30 mins once a week than 1hr every fortnight.

  • No, while I recommend that all musicians learn to read notation, TAB has been around for many years and negates the need to read traditional notation. However, I strongly recommend learning to read the rhythm of traditional notation at the very least. TAB without rhythm could be played 100 different ways and who is to say which one is right.
